Get ready, this post gonna be images intensive, might wanna grab your boltgun clips and load your bolts while it loads… haha.
Have been a busy month, and I finally got my commissioned box of 40k Assault on Black Reach completed, all Ultramarines and Orks painted in a typical table top gaming standard. Speed painting wasn’t really my cup of tea, as I still like to breathe some souls into the miniatures with basic and simple blends, washes and highlights.
Most of the miniatures I painted using a watery wet layering blending and highlight technique. This method is slightly faster than my usual methods of wet and smooth blending technique. Well, still, I have to get the miniatures painted at a reasonable pace. Though I painted using the mass factory method, I still wanna inject soul into each miniature.
Overall, I must say I really enjoyed painting the marines and the Orks. As I don’t collect Orks, it was a new experience painting Orks, and I grown to like the Orks bunch, haha. I think the box set of the Ork Boyz would be much more fun to build and paint, as there are more parts individually and having different pose options. The Black Reach Orks and marines are all snapped on pieces. Easy to build, but the option for different pose is limited, as each miniatures are fixed and snapped on only. The moulding technology and idea to layout all the miniatures in a few sprues were amazing though.
Don’t think I will buy more Orks to paint… Maybe Orks boss, haha. But as I was referring to the White Dwarf issue 345 for the Assault on Black Reach reference, I recalled that issue of White Dwarf came with a set sample of a Terminator and a Ork Boyz. Hmm, let me do a search in my piles, and maybe I can paint one more Ork Boyz in my usual methods, and create a battle diorama with the terminator and the Ork Boyz… good idea…!
Once everything was completed, I could not resist not doing a photo shoot of a battle scene like a typical Black Reach battle Scenario, and besides I will need to hand over the completed miniatures to my client. Took my 2 blocks of Cities of Death and set up a photo shot session. With the Ultramarines on the left and the Orks on the right, both parties emerge from the shadows of the Cities of Death and assault! Gosh it was fun shooting the battle scene with the visions and animation happening in my mind at the same time. The only irritating constrain is my camera, sigh, only limited to what the camera can focus with no options for control. Still trying to save some budget for a better camera, but my last miniatures order already burned a big hole in my pocket… haha.
Meantime, enjoy the pictures while I finish up loading my bolt rounds into the clips for my Bolt pistol, haha. FOR THE EMPEROR!
