Liebherr LTM 1250 Diecast Crane Model

I had an interesting project a while back. Client had a diecast Liebherr LTM 1350 Diecast Crane Model and wanted it be repainted in a custom colour for their client. The crane model is a full diecast model and it was heavy.

I had to dismentle the crane up before I can do any painting. I did not want to strip the paint, so I decided to go with the method of repaint. Took all the disassembled parts and sanded them down, to remove the varnish coating. After that, had another round fine sanding to smoothen the surfaces.

The crane was based with Mr Hobby lacquer primer. The custom green I had to mix with Mr Hobby lacquer paint to get as close as possible to the client corporate colour. Then it mulitple layers of airbrushing coating. The decals were custom made and added on once all the painting were done. And finally finishing it off with multiple layers clear varnish coat for protection.

Overall, it was an interesting project. Lacquer paint takes time to dry and cure, along with the bad odour. I felt these were one of the usual con when painting with lacquer paints. On the good side of lacquer paints, the finishing is smooth and the best part of it is there’s no clogging or jam of airbrush, all the way smooth airbrushing! Still once completed, its look amazing!
